The Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China and the Russian Joint Nuclear Research Institute officially signed the Sino-Russian Heavy Ion Superconducting Synchrotron Project Cooperation Implementation Agreement

On 26 August 2020, the opening ceremony of the China-Russia Science and Technology Innovation Year was held. President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin sent congratulatory letters respectively. Vice Premier Sun Chunlan of the State Council and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Golikova jointly attended the opening ceremony. At the opening ceremony, the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China and the Joint Institute of Nuclear Research of Russia officially signed the Sino-Russian Heavy Ion Superconducting Synchrotron Project (NICA) cooperation implementation agreement.

The opening ceremony of the China-Russia Year of Science and Technology Innovation

Vice Premier Sun Chunlan of the State Council pointed out that with the joint efforts of China and Russia, more than 1,000 activities have been implemented in the annual plan of scientific and technological innovation, which fully reflects the huge potential of Sino-Russian cooperation in scientific and technological innovation. The two sides should expand the fields of scientific and technological innovation cooperation, cultivate and implement strategic flagship projects, give play to the role of joint laboratories and research centers, promote the two-way flow of talents, deepen cooperation in the transformation of achievements and venture capital, and promote the deepening of the comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation between China and Russia in the new era. .

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Golikova said that Russia and China are both world science and technology powers, and deepening scientific and technological innovation cooperation is in the interests of the two countries. The holding of the Year of Science and Technology Innovation will definitely promote the connection between the "Eurasian Economic Union" and the "Belt and Road" construction, and promote the high-level development of bilateral relations .

The Institute of Plasma Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (hereinafter referred to as the "Plasma Institute") and the Russian Joint Institute for Nuclear Research have always maintained a good cooperative relationship. Previously, the two sides have carried out fruitful cooperation in the construction of EAST and NICA large scientific engineering projects. With the joint efforts of China and Russia, the NICA project has been promoted from the cooperation between scientific research institutes to the current cooperation between the two governments.

The Institute of Plasma has established stable and good cooperative relations with Russian scientific research institutions

In 2011, the Institute of Plasma and the Russian Joint Nuclear Research Institute signed a memorandum of cooperation on the two major equipment cooperation projects of EAST and NICA; in 2015, the two sides jointly established the Sino-Russian Superconducting Proton Joint Center to develop the first superconducting cyclotron proton therapy device in China and Russia . The Institute of Plasma has established a good partnership with more than 10 Russian scientific research institutions, including the Russian Joint Nuclear Research Institute, the Kurchatov Institute, and the Yefremov Institute of Electrophysical Equipment. The content of cooperation between the two parties has expanded from nuclear fusion research. To superconducting materials, high-power power supplies, accelerator research, medical equipment, etc.

On the occasion of the Year of Scientific and Technological Innovation, the Institute of Plasma and the Russian Joint Nuclear Research Institute will further promote the in-depth opening and sharing of Chinese and Russian large scientific installations such as EAST and NICA, expand the fields of scientific and technological innovation cooperation between the two sides, cultivate and implement strategic projects, and jointly exert international influence. to further promote the international opening, cooperation and exchanges of major BRICS infrastructure research facilities.
