Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said that "there is something wrong with Taiwan" means "there is something wrong with Japan", or even the "Japan-US alliance". The Taiwan-related remarks aroused extreme dissatisfaction in Beijing, and the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs urgently summoned the Japanese ambassador to China to make solemn representations. In an interview with Japanese TV on Tuesday (7th), Abe reiterated his remarks at the time, and further pointed out that "there is something in Taiwan" not only refers to Beijing's military attack on Taiwan, but also uses other means to cause chaos in Taiwan.

In an interview with Japanese TV Prime News on the 7th, Abe pointed out that he did not intend to provoke China. He considered himself to be the most committed political figure in Japanese politics to develop Japan-China relations. However, it is a fact that China's military pressure on Taiwan has increased recently. For example, in the past four days, China had 149 military sorties invading Taiwan's Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ). He stressed that it is necessary for Japan to show its will to let China know how things might develop and what dangers there would be.

Abe explained that many conflicts will occur when the strength of the two sides is seriously imbalanced, or the determination of the other side is underestimated. China may find it easy to unify by force, so it is necessary to take a serious attitude. The real problem is that the Japanese territory of Yonaguni Island is only about 100 kilometers away from Taiwan. If there is an emergency in the Taiwan Strait, including the United States, it is in line with the "important situation of influence" in the "Security Law" that the Japan Self-Defense Force can support foreign countries. That's why he said that something in Taiwan is the same as something in Japan and something in the US-Japan alliance.

"Something" includes indirect aggression

Abe also pointed out that "there is something wrong with Taiwan" is not necessarily a military invasion or a large-scale cyber attack, which weakens the will of Taiwanese people to fight, and then triggers chaos within Taiwan. That is to say, there are various modes including launching aggression against Taiwan or indirect aggression. If China uses other means to cause chaos in Taiwan, it also meets the definition of "something". This statement was endorsed by other commentators present.

Abe also revealed that private security dialogues among Japan, Taiwan, and the United States are all going on, and information is given back to the government. Many things are actually going on, but he is inconvenient to disclose the content.

Abe also reiterated that it should assist Taiwan in participating in United Nations organizations, such as the World Health Organization
