In 2017

On the afternoon of June 15, 2017, the award ceremony of Dr. Quan Li from Kent State University in the United States as an adjunct professor of Nanjing University and a special academic report in Tiandi Lecture Hall were held at the Xianlin Campus of Nanjing University. More than 100 people, including heads of  departments, representatives of scholars, teachers and students, from Nanjing University, Southeast University, East China University of Science and Technology, Xiamen University and related colleges attended the ceremony.

(Audiences present)
The appointment ceremony was presided over by Shuhua Li, Dean of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Nanjing University. Dean Yanqing Lu of the School of Modern Engineering and Applied Science of Nanjing University introduced Professor Quan Li's resume. Yong Ji , Deputy Director of Human Resources Department, announced the appointment decision and issued a letter of appointment to Professor  Quan Li and help Quan Li wear the school badge.

After the appointment ceremony, he brought an academic report "Stimulation-induced Construction of Liquid Crystal Nanostructures - From Dynamic Photons to Renewable Energy" to more than 120 teachers and students. Starting from the magical phenomenon in nature, he introduced liquid crystal, a peculiar soft material, to guide everyone to focus on the non-display applications of such smart materials. He also systematically introduced his research group's research progress on molecular motors, light control in photonic crystals, intelligent energy-saving windows, renewable energy and other fields. After the report, the teachers and students actively asked questions, and he answered the questions earnestly.

Quan  Li was making report.
The leaders and guests present were: Professor Quan Li from Kent State University, Yong Ji, Shuhua Li,Yanqing Lu,  Jianfeng Zhou, Hong Yang, Deputy Dean of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Southeast University,Lihua Ye, Deputy Dean of the School of Electronic Science and Engineering, Southeast University, Professor Zhigang Zheng of East China University of Science and Technology, and Professor Lujian Chen of Xiamen University. More than 120 people gathered to witness this moment.

It's also acknowledged by the Nanjing University that:
Professor Quan Li is an internationally renowned scholar in the field of liquid crystal technology. He has made outstanding contributions to the research of intelligent liquid crystal materials and personnel training. He is currently working at Kent State University in the United States. He has worked in many academic institutions such as the Committee and the University of Göttingen in Germany; he has been selected as a Humboldt Scholars in Germany..., In recent years, as chief scientist, he has presided over a number of projects funded by the U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, NASA and other federal governments, with a total funding of more than 18 million US dollars.

In 2019
The team of Prof. Wei Hu and Prof. Yanqing  Lu from Nanjing University and Prof. Quan Li  from Kent State University in the United States have achieved continuously tunable working wavelength and conjugated phase distribution by designing a self-assembled helical superstructure incorporating a light-controlled chirality-flipping molecular machine. The control-transformed planar photonic element provides a practical solution for a dynamic planar photonic element. The work, titled "Chirality invertible superstructure mediated active planar optics", was published online in Nature Communications on June 7, 2019 supported by the National Key Research and Development Program of China (2017YFA0303700), the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) (Nos. 61575093, 61490714, and 61435008), the Distinguished Young Scholars Fund of Jiangsu Province (BK20180004), the Fundamental Research Funds for the Central Universities (021014380118) and the Scientific Research Foundation of Graduate School of Nanjing University (2017ZDL06). W. H. gratefully acknowledges the support of the Tang Scholar program.
